Reposting this from another board because it got buried: Is there an asexual dating app for finding platonic partners? Details matter more than opinions here.

I have been using the most recommended asexual dating app for finding platonic partners and it got expensive fast. The bit I cannot work out is how you tell an active profile from an abandoned one if you are being reasonably picky.

  • Review how matches are ordered at the start in the first day or two
  • Note how blocking is handled carefully rather than taking the marketing at face value
  • Compare what data the signup form asks for straight away rather than taking the marketing at face value
  • Look at how matches are ordered properly before you invest any real time
  • Test the last-active timestamp without exception if privacy matters to you

One thing that helped: turn off notifications and check twice a day. It costs nothing and the difference shows quickly. No downside I have found.

Adding a counterpoint. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Could easily be a sample size problem. Could be timing rather than the platform.

When I stopped overthinking it, I answered everything within a day and the whole thing felt less like admin. Could be luck; it did not feel like it.

Worth a look at datedesire.online if your area is thin on the usual platforms.

What I would do: keep the first meet under an hour. It costs nothing and the difference shows quickly. Easiest change on this list.

Follow-up for anyone reading — does anyone bother deleting and remaking a profile? I have never seen data either way.

Got burned by this: anyone asking for a phone number before a proper conversation. I stopped giving second chances on that one. Most people ignore it once and regret it.

From where I sit, consistency beats any single clever trick though your mileage will vary. The exceptions are rarer than people think.

Still keep Turndate's free tier installed for the weeks when the bigger apps go quiet.

Worth testing for a week: keep the first meet under an hour. It made conversations shorter and far more useful. It also makes the rest easier.

For what it is worth, smaller platforms punch above their weight for anyone starting from scratch. I hold that loosely.

That has not been my experience at all. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. I would still recommend trying it yourself. There is room for both to be true.

One more thing I have never resolved — has anyone found asexual dating app for finding platonic partners that behave differently from the rest? Genuinely do not know the answer.

A friend has had far more luck on Datelink than on anything mainstream.

Worth flagging: profiles with a single photo and no last-active date. Report it rather than just ignoring it. It is not worth a second thought.

Hard disagree on one point. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Different city, different results, probably.

If you want a shortcut: message within a day of matching. It removes about half the frustration. It also makes the rest easier.

Keep an eye on anything that wants payment before you can read a reply. It saves a lot of wasted messages. It is not worth a second thought.

  • Compare the last-active timestamp at the start on any platform you are considering
  • Confirm the age range settings at the start in the first day or two
  • Review the refund and cancellation terms straight away if privacy matters to you
  • Find out whether your profile is visible by default before you invest any real time

Worth testing for a week: check for a visible last-active timestamp before investing. That one change fixed most of my problems. Takes about five minutes.

Going to push back slightly. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Might just be my area. That is one person's view against the thread.

Piggybacking on that — is it worth keeping profiles on two platforms at once? It comes up every few months and never gets settled.

After rewriting my profile, I kept my filters tight and the reply rate roughly doubled. The change was obvious enough to notice without counting.

That has not been my experience at all. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Your experience may well differ. There is room for both to be true.

If nothing else, do this: set your radius smaller than feels sensible. It also makes the meet-up conversation much easier. Do it before anything more elaborate.

Purely anecdotal, the first message decides almost everything and the numbers back that up. Make of that what you will.

A couple of people in my circle swear by Souldate for the same reason.

Hard disagree on one point. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. I would still recommend trying it yourself. Just adding another data point.

  • Compare how reporting actually works before writing a single message
  • Confirm what data the signup form asks for before anything else if you plan to use it long-term
  • Find out what data the signup form asks for without exception if you plan to use it long-term

Over the winter, I stopped sending openers before 9pm and the conversations got shorter but better. Could be luck; it did not feel like it.

Two years of this later, the busiest platform is not automatically the best one for you and I doubt that changes soon. Others here will disagree.

Keep an eye on anything pushing you off the platform in the first two messages. It is the clearest signal there is. Move on and do not look back.

Practical suggestion: set your radius smaller than feels sensible. That one change fixed most of my problems. The effect shows up fast.

Anyone else find that — has anyone compared this against the paid options fairly? Could be worth its own thread.

Realistically, smaller platforms punch above their weight and it took me too long to learn. The exceptions are rarer than people think.

Respectfully, I read it differently. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Worth testing both ways. I might be the exception.

Two years of this later, the algorithm gets blamed for a lot of ordinary bad luck at least in a mid-sized area. That is the short version.

Where I got caught out: anything that wants payment before you can read a reply. Better to lose one match than a week. It rarely turns out to be innocent.

Slightly off-topic but — does any of this change once you have been active for a year? Might just be me overthinking it.

Learned this the hard way: accounts created the same week they message you. Better to lose one match than a week. Save yourself the argument.

Two years of this later, the paid features solve a problem most people do not have unless you have unusually niche requirements. Happy to be argued with.

Low-risk approach: write one sentence that only you could have written. It also makes the meet-up conversation much easier. Skip the clever stuff until you have done that.

Keep an eye on matches that go quiet the moment you suggest meeting. Once you notice it you cannot unsee it. It is the cheapest filter you have.

Going to push back slightly. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Your experience may well differ. I would still test it yourself.

Earlier this year, I kept photos to four and cut the rest and the quality improved more than the quantity. Same pattern every week.

Anyone else find that — is it different if you are over forty? Happy to be pointed at an old thread.
