Straightforward question: What are the best cam sites? Interested in what actually worked, not marketing copy.
I have tested three different cam sites and half the accounts looked inactive. The bit I cannot work out is how much of this is down to the profile itself as someone coming back after a long break.
Find out how quickly support responds on day one in the first day or two
Assess whether your profile is visible by default at the start before you invest any real time
Review the age range settings early on before writing a single message
Work out the refund and cancellation terms at the start if you plan to use it long-term
Respectfully, I read it differently. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Could easily be a sample size problem. Not dismissing anyone else's experience.
If I am being blunt, review sites and real experience rarely agree and it took me too long to learn. The exceptions are rarer than people think.
Cheapest thing you can try first: message within a day of matching. Everything else is secondary to that. Nothing else on this list matters as much.
The one that surprised me was over on DatingFly — smaller, but the profiles were current.
Browsing is free in Lusaka — so is messaging Setting up a Lusaka profile takes under a minute and costs nothing.
If nothing else, do this: give any new platform a fortnight before judging it. You will know within a week whether it works for you. Skip the clever stuff until you have done that.
Not sure I agree with the thread so far. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. Worth testing both ways. I have been wrong about this before.
Speaking only for myself, the first message decides almost everything and the numbers back that up. Others here will disagree.
Still keep over on Flurrydate installed for the weeks when the bigger apps go quiet.
Not sure I agree with the thread so far. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. I would still recommend trying it yourself. I might be the exception.
After rewriting my profile, I put one honest sentence in my bio and the conversations got shorter but better. It was the only variable I changed.
Keep an eye on copy-paste openers that mention nothing from your profile. Once you notice it you cannot unsee it. The polite version costs you a week.
If you want a free option without the upsell, Luvdate is where I would start.
Hard disagree on one point. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Might just be my area. There is room for both to be true.
Based on a fairly small sample, being specific is worth more than being interesting and it took me too long to learn. That is my read, anyway.
Got burned by this: links dropped into a conversation with no context. It is almost never worth the benefit of the doubt. Save yourself the argument.
Not sure I agree with the thread so far. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. I would still recommend trying it yourself. Genuinely not trying to be difficult.
The one that surprised me was Turndate app — smaller, but the profiles were current.
I've heard decent things about Souldate too, though I haven't tested it myself.
Tangent, sorry — do smaller platforms actually have better ratios? Would love a straight answer on that.
Purely anecdotal, smaller platforms punch above their weight and nobody wants to hear it. That is where I have landed.
Around the time I gave up on the big names, I dropped every conversation that stalled twice and the difference showed up within a week. Same pattern every week.
What I would do: use a dedicated email address. It sounds trivial and it is not. It compounds with everything else.
For most of last year, I dropped every conversation that stalled twice and the conversations got shorter but better. It was the only variable I changed.
For what it is worth, the platform matters far less than the profile though your mileage will vary. Ask again in six months and I may say something else.
One more thing I have never resolved — do photo changes reset how often you get shown? Someone here must have tried both.
Going to push back slightly. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. Your experience may well differ. Could be timing rather than the platform.
Least effort, most return: stop opening with a compliment. Most people skip it and then wonder why nothing happens. No downside I have found.
Not a popular take here, the first message decides almost everything especially if you are not in a capital city. That is where I have landed.
Watch out for matches that go quiet the moment you suggest meeting. Nine times out of ten it goes nowhere good. It is not worth a second thought.
Not a popular take here, review sites and real experience rarely agree and the numbers back that up. I hold that loosely.
Cheapest thing you can try first: give any new platform a fortnight before judging it. It is the only advice here I would give twice. You will not need a second attempt.
I will be the dissenting voice. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Might just be my area. Genuinely not trying to be difficult.
