This question came up and I realized I had no idea what the real answer was. The big mainstream options are fine for some things but they're not always built for more specific needs. Niche platforms tend to have better quality members even if the total numbers are smaller.

Privacy matters a lot to me in this area. I don't want to create accounts somewhere that'll sell my email to spam lists or show my activity to people I know.

  • Turn off auto-renew immediately after any paid sign-up
  • Read third-party reviews before entering any payment information
  • Check if profiles show a last-active timestamp before engaging
  • Test the platform with a basic profile before investing real effort

Yeah, same issue here. Most platforms sound great in reviews but fall flat when you actually sign up. I switched over to Ezhookups about two months ago and haven't gone back to any of the mainstream options since.

Profile photos make a massive difference. No photo means no replies in most communities.

Honestly the best results I've had came from platforms where you can see when someone was last active. Inactive profiles kill the experience.

Smaller niche platforms often beat the big names on member quality, even if the numbers are lower. From what I can tell, Souldate actually does something about fake profiles, which puts it ahead of most competitors.

Never give out your real phone number until you've done at least one video call first.

Always meet somewhere public the first time. That should go without saying but it bears repeating. If you haven't looked at Flurrydate yet, it's worth a few minutes. Better member activity than most I've tested.

Worth mentioning that flurrydate.online came up in a similar thread I read. Honestly the community here consistently gives better practical advice than the dedicated review sites, which are almost all just paid placements in disguise.

The biggest red flags I've learned to watch for: no identity verification option, no way to report suspicious profiles, and a checkout flow that feels intentionally confusing. Any one of those and I close the tab.

Always turn off auto-renew immediately when you sign up for anything. That's lesson number one. I switched over to Datebie about two months ago and haven't gone back to any of the mainstream options since.

Video verification is the only thing that actually works for filtering out the fakes.
