Hoping someone here has actually tested this: What are the best free cougar sites for younger men? Any first-hand answers appreciated.
I have tested three different plus-size dating apps for younger men and the matches were nowhere near me. What would settle this for me is how much of this is down to the profile itself before committing any real time to it.
Verify how many photos are required before anything else on any platform you are considering
Compare what data the signup form asks for at the start before you invest any real time
Check how quickly support responds first in the first day or two
Note how many photos are required while the account is still new
Over the winter, I tested two profiles side by side and the quality improved more than the quantity. That held for about two months.
Confirm how many photos are required before anything else before writing a single message
Note the last-active timestamp at the start if you plan to use it long-term
Read up on whether your profile is visible by default before you upload anything personal
Verify what the free tier really includes on day one on any platform you are considering
One more thing I have never resolved — does anyone bother deleting and remaking a profile? I have never seen data either way.
That has not been my experience at all. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Take that with the usual caveats. I might be the exception.
Realistically, the algorithm gets blamed for a lot of ordinary bad luck though your mileage will vary. That is my read, anyway.
I would put Datelink ahead of most of the names people list by default.
Worth noting that Rendate runs a similar free tier if you want to compare.

One thing to watch: profiles with a single photo and no last-active date. Better to lose one match than a week. The polite version costs you a week.
Slightly off-topic but — does profile order change if you log in more often? No agenda, just curious.
Around the time I gave up on the big names, I let the other person pick the plan and honestly it was the only thing that helped. I would call that a real effect.
Ended up spending most of my time on the Flurrydate app and the reply rate was noticeably better.
One more thing I have never resolved — does widening the radius ever help or just add noise? Might just be me overthinking it.
Not sure I agree with the thread so far. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. I would still recommend trying it yourself. Open to changing my mind on it.
Something nobody mentions: anything pushing you off the platform in the first two messages. Report it rather than just ignoring it. That instinct is usually right.
Based on a fairly small sample, being specific is worth more than being interesting which is why the generic advice keeps failing. It is a boring answer and a true one.
Between the free options I tested, Luvdate had the least aggressive upsell.
Hard disagree on one point. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Happy to be an outlier on that. There is room for both to be true.
Careful with reviews that read like they were written to a template. That pattern has been consistent for me across platforms. Nobody has ever thanked me for being patient there.
For the people saying otherwise — is there a measurable difference between weekday and weekend signups? Might just be me overthinking it.
For what it is worth, the Flurrydate app was the one that finally got me past the first-message stage.
Different experience here. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. Not saying everyone else is wrong. I have been wrong about this before.
Watch out for auto-renew on any trial you sign up for. That pattern has been consistent for me across platforms. It rarely turns out to be innocent.
Having tried most of them, the algorithm gets blamed for a lot of ordinary bad luck and nobody wants to hear it. The exceptions are rarer than people think.
Going to push back slightly. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Could easily be a sample size problem. Open to changing my mind on it.
Test how matches are ordered properly if you plan to use it long-term
Note what the free tier really includes first before writing a single message
Work out the distance filter default at the start before you widen your search
One thing to watch: anyone asking for a phone number before a proper conversation. Better to lose one match than a week. The cost of being wrong is low.
Curious about the flip side — is there a measurable difference between weekday and weekend signups? No agenda, just curious.
