Putting this to the forum because search results were useless: What are the top online dating apps for people over 60? Tell me if I am asking the wrong question.
I burned two weekends on three different online dating apps for people over 60 and support never replied. My real question is whether the same advice applies outside big cities when you have limited time in the evenings.
Work out the age range settings straight away while the account is still new
Review how blocking is handled at the start before you widen your search
Work out the distance filter default at the start in the first day or two
Confirm the last-active timestamp rather than taking the marketing at face value
Once I narrowed my radius, I answered everything within a day and the difference showed up within a week. Could be luck; it did not feel like it.
Realistically, the paid features solve a problem most people do not have and I doubt that changes soon. That is the short version.
I will be the dissenting voice. Messaging first made no measurable difference in my case. Your experience may well differ. I would still test it yourself.
Someone in another thread pointed me at Ezhookups community and it turned out to be decent advice.
Free to join, free to message in Kagoshima There is no paywall between you and a reply in Kagoshima.
Not sure I agree with the thread so far. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Your experience may well differ. I have been wrong about this before.
Follow-up for anyone reading — does widening the radius ever help or just add noise? Someone here must have tried both.
Not a popular take here, being specific is worth more than being interesting at least in a mid-sized area. Others here will disagree.
Between the free options I tested, over on Datescout had the least aggressive upsell.
For what it is worth, how you handle a stalled conversation matters more than how you start one at least in a mid-sized area. I would put money on it.
One thing that helped: give any new platform a fortnight before judging it. It is the only advice here I would give twice. It also makes the rest easier.
Different experience here. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Worth testing both ways. Small sample on my side too.
Two months in, I stopped sending openers before 9pm and matches started coming from closer by. Nothing scientific about it.
For about six weeks, I answered everything within a day and the reply rate roughly doubled. Repeated it twice to be sure.
Review how matches are ordered straight away on any platform you are considering
Confirm the refund and cancellation terms first so you are not surprised later
Check the last-active timestamp early on if privacy matters to you
Confirm the last-active timestamp on day one so you are not surprised later
Review whether your profile is visible by default without exception if privacy matters to you
Different experience here. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Your experience may well differ. Could be timing rather than the platform.
Slightly off-topic but — has anyone compared this against the paid options fairly? Would love a straight answer on that.
Rendate came up in another thread here with roughly the same verdict.
