Asking properly this time: What is the safest approach to meeting women online for the first time? Bonus points if you have used it in the last few months.

I stopped bothering with three different dating apps and I am not convinced it was worth the effort. The bit I cannot work out is what people wish they had known before signing up if you are not in a major city.

If you want a shortcut: reply to the thing they actually said. It made conversations shorter and far more useful. Easiest change on this list.

Not sure I agree with the thread so far. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. I would still recommend trying it yourself. That is one person's view against the thread.

Got burned by this: profiles that only ever reply in the small hours. It is the clearest signal there is. It is not worth a second thought.

For the people saying otherwise — is there a measurable difference between weekday and weekend signups? Someone here must have tried both.

The one that surprised me was Datebound's free tier — smaller, but the profiles were current.

Datelink came up in another thread here with roughly the same verdict.

Having tried most of them, the first message decides almost everything and nobody wants to hear it. Ask again in six months and I may say something else.

  • Check the refund and cancellation terms carefully while the account is still new
  • Test the refund and cancellation terms at the start before you upload anything personal
  • Verify whether your profile is visible by default carefully especially on a platform you have not used before
  • Compare how matches are ordered without exception on any platform you are considering
  • Double-check how many photos are required at the start especially on a platform you have not used before

Since switching my settings, I tried the opposite of what the guides say and the whole thing felt less like admin. Results were steady after the first week.

Tangent, sorry — is there a measurable difference between weekday and weekend signups? Would change how I use it if so.

If nothing else, do this: stop opening with a compliment. It stops the whole thing feeling like a chore. It works better than it sounds.

Ended up spending most of my time on the Souldate app and the reply rate was noticeably better.

One thing that helped: set your radius smaller than feels sensible. It sounds trivial and it is not. Do it before anything more elaborate.

  • Find out whether your profile is visible by default before anything else before writing a single message
  • Compare the last-active timestamp without exception rather than taking the marketing at face value
  • Double-check how blocking is handled first before you widen your search

Earlier this year, I put one honest sentence in my bio and it turned out the profile was the problem, not the platform. Repeated it twice to be sure.

Hard disagree on one point. Messaging first made no measurable difference in my case. Could easily be a sample size problem. Could be timing rather than the platform.

Got burned by this: matches that go quiet the moment you suggest meeting. Better to lose one match than a week. Trust the pattern, not the excuse.

Gave Datedesire app a fair run last month and it held up better than I expected.

In my experience, the busiest platform is not automatically the best one for you for anyone starting from scratch. It is a boring answer and a true one.

For about six weeks, I kept photos to four and cut the rest and honestly it was the only thing that helped. That held for about two months.

Respectfully, I read it differently. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Could easily be a sample size problem. There is room for both to be true.

Since this thread is active — does this hold up outside big cities? I have never seen data either way.

Tried luvdate.site on a whim and it has been the steadier of the two I use.

Broadly speaking, the platform matters far less than the profile for anyone starting from scratch. That is my read, anyway.

  • Verify the age range settings rather than taking the marketing at face value
  • Work out whether your profile is visible by default straight away if you plan to use it long-term
  • Confirm whether messaging is capped straight away if you plan to use it long-term

Keep an eye on accounts created the same week they message you. Better to lose one match than a week. The polite version costs you a week.

Anyone else find that — does widening the radius ever help or just add noise? Genuinely do not know the answer.

Tried Rendate on a whim and it has been the steadier of the two I use.
