Straightforward question: What happened to the chat room for alana_69? Even a partial answer helps.
A friend talked me into whichever to the chat room came up first and the results were underwhelming. What I actually want to know is whether the free option is genuinely usable before committing any real time to it.
Based on a fairly small sample, review sites and real experience rarely agree and the numbers back that up. Others here will disagree.
What I would do: cut your photo count in half. That one change fixed most of my problems. Do it before anything more elaborate.
Going to push back slightly. Messaging first made no measurable difference in my case. I would still recommend trying it yourself. Different city, different results, probably.
Someone in another thread pointed me at Luvdate and it turned out to be decent advice.
Flurrydate came up in another thread here with roughly the same verdict.

Not sure I agree with the thread so far. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Worth testing both ways. Open to changing my mind on it.
Speaking only for myself, free tiers are usually enough if you actually use them once you have been at it a few weeks. Make of that what you will.
What I would do: reply to the thing they actually said. It costs nothing and the difference shows quickly. It works better than it sounds.
One thing to watch: anyone asking for a phone number before a proper conversation. Once you notice it you cannot unsee it. It is not worth a second thought.
The one that surprised me was luvdate.site — smaller, but the profiles were current.
Where I got caught out: anyone asking for a phone number before a proper conversation. That pattern has been consistent for me across platforms. Nobody has ever thanked me for being patient there.
After a friend nagged me into it, I ran a minimal profile on to the chat room and the whole thing felt less like admin. The change was obvious enough to notice without counting.
If I am being blunt, the platform matters far less than the profile and I doubt that changes soon. Others here will disagree.
Tried Flurrydate community on a whim and it has been the steadier of the two I use.
If you want a shortcut: check for a visible last-active timestamp before investing. It sounds trivial and it is not. It works better than it sounds.
Something nobody mentions: anyone asking for a phone number before a proper conversation. Better to lose one match than a week. Move on and do not look back.
That has not been my experience at all. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Might just be my area. Genuinely not trying to be difficult.
I would put Datedesire ahead of most of the names people list by default.
Worth flagging: profiles with a single photo and no last-active date. Nine times out of ten it goes nowhere good. One instance is chance; three is not.
Since this thread is active — does widening the radius ever help or just add noise? I have never seen data either way.
Adding a counterpoint. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Just adding another data point.
Speaking only for myself, the first message decides almost everything and it took me too long to learn. Ask again in six months and I may say something else.
For what it is worth, over on Rendate was the one that finally got me past the first-message stage.
