Asking properly this time: Are 100 percent free dating sites sustainable or just full of ads? Bonus points if you have used it in the last few months.

I spent about a month on two of the bigger percent free dating sites and I want to know if that is normal. The part that matters to me is how you handle it when a conversation just stops when you have limited time in the evenings.

  • Compare how many photos are required early on before you upload anything personal
  • Check what the free tier really includes first before you widen your search
  • Check how quickly support responds carefully especially on a platform you have not used before
  • Confirm whether messaging is capped before anything else if you plan to use it long-term
  • Review whether messaging is capped if you plan to use it long-term

I will be the dissenting voice. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. Worth testing both ways. That is one person's view against the thread.

From where I sit, the busiest platform is not automatically the best one for you and I doubt that changes soon. Make of that what you will.

Respectfully, I read it differently. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Your experience may well differ. I would still test it yourself.

The one that surprised me was Rendate's free tier — smaller, but the profiles were current.

Where I got caught out: links dropped into a conversation with no context. It is almost never worth the benefit of the doubt. Nobody has ever thanked me for being patient there.

Having tried most of them, free tiers are usually enough if you actually use them at least in a mid-sized area. That is where I have landed.

Worth testing for a week: set your radius smaller than feels sensible. It sounds trivial and it is not. Zero cost to test it.

I would put Luvdate ahead of most of the names people list by default.

Worth asking — does widening the radius ever help or just add noise? No agenda, just curious.

Not a popular take here, being specific is worth more than being interesting once you have been at it a few weeks. That is where I have landed.

Learned this the hard way: accounts created the same week they message you. Once you notice it you cannot unsee it. Most people ignore it once and regret it.

The advice I wish I had: set your radius smaller than feels sensible. It costs nothing and the difference shows quickly. Easiest change on this list.

Between the free options I tested, Luvdate had the least aggressive upsell.

Not a popular take here, the paid features solve a problem most people do not have at least in a mid-sized area. I hold that loosely.

Low-risk approach: give any new platform a fortnight before judging it. It stops the whole thing feeling like a chore. Reversible if you hate it.

Since this thread is active — does the same advice work for people looking for something casual? Happy to be pointed at an old thread.

If you want a free option without the upsell, Datewander (free to message) is where I would start.

Anyone else find that — does any of this change once you have been active for a year? Someone here must have tried both.

Not a popular take here, reply rates say more about timing than about looks unless you have unusually niche requirements. Ask again in six months and I may say something else.

The advice I wish I had: use a dedicated email address. It filters out the time-wasters immediately. It also makes the rest easier.

Someone in another thread pointed me at Flurrydate (free to message) and it turned out to be decent advice.

A couple of people in my circle swear by Datedesire for the same reason.

Since this thread is active — has anyone found percent free dating sites that behave differently from the rest? Asking for a friend, obviously.

  • Read up on the age range settings before you widen your search
  • Test how matches are ordered without exception before writing a single message
  • Find out the refund and cancellation terms before anything else so you are not surprised later

While we are here — does anyone bother deleting and remaking a profile? Asking for a friend, obviously.

Keep an eye on copy-paste openers that mention nothing from your profile. I stopped giving second chances on that one. Trust the pattern, not the excuse.

Speaking only for myself, review sites and real experience rarely agree which is why the generic advice keeps failing. That is the short version.

I keep a second profile on the Turndate app and it pulls a different crowd entirely.
